Wow that year went by quick. I am still bumping New Tigalo, New Tigalo as CD of the year in 2011, but alas poor Yorick it is time to announce the new batch of the hotness from this year 2012. Last year was easier because I thought that there were many CD’s that stood out from the pack. This year I knew what the number one CD was as soon as I heard the intro. I know everyone and their mother comes out with a end of year best of something so remember this list is just my thoughts man.
I have included the links to the CD’s prospective websites so that you can listen to and make a purchase.

THE BEST HIP HOP CD'S OF 2011

CD OF THE YEAR
With real Hip Hop hard to find on radio and television, and dead as a medium to promote live in the flesh poets, I thought I would submit my top 10 hip hop Cd's of 2011. I wanted to provide a real, authentic, no payola, heartfelt list of 10 CD's that when you listen to them remind you of Hip Hop 1988-2003. I wanted to hear metaphors and thought provoking wordsmiths spitting fire. THAT'S IT. Without giving a blow by blow analysis of each CD I provided links for you to click on and visit each CD's website. In some instances I provided a link for you to download the full entire CD for free.
Usually top 10 lists of Hip Hop only include underground CD's that you have never heard of so that the writer can seem to know more about music than he thinks. This list does have a couple of CD's that were passed on to me and the only reason I listened to them were because they were free, but you have at least heard of DJ QUIK, THE GAME, AND WU TANG CLAN. Interestingly enough numbers 2 and 3 pm the list are artists who are always in the mainstay; Common, Kanye and Jay-Z. For them to make the top 3 let you know that they really put in work to write great lyrics and get outstanding beats. But their CD's only made it to the top #3 and #2 Cd's of the year.
My number one CD comes from Phonte of Little Brother and of the Foreign Exchange entitled, "Charity Starts At Home" . This CD is outstanding. It is Flawless. It has some of the greatest Metaphors ever spit on an album. It also mixes in R&B hooks, beats, and strong vocals so much that you are sometimes finding yourself trapped between wanting to frown your face up, shake your head back and forth with a baseball cap on backwards or....Wanting to find that special someone who you are with and chill out. I have never had that decision to make on a CD. That in and of itself will make you want to purchase this CD. It's like a pair of khakis. You can wear them to the office, or you can un-button your collar and wear the khakis to a rap battle. In either circumstance you will fit in. This CD fits in. It is something that has been missing in music. There are others who try to add singing to their rap cd but it always sounds forced, and also requires the use of a computer to auto tune their vocal misfortunes. PHONTE hits every note singing and rapping.
I suggest that if you have not purchased Charity Starts At Home you should run out to the store. Who am I Kidding, go to I-Tunes and download it now. BUT DON'T STOP THERE. I would suggest you purchase every Little Brother CD, and hell, FOREIGN EXCHANGE CD for that matter.
Sometime music seems to be lost. Every now and then hard working artists rise to the top and give you something to remember. It was a solid year for the top of the spectrum in the hip hop game. I hope that this can lead to more than the same 10 songs being played on the radio by DJ's who are getting paid to play the music they program.
